What are everyone's favourite movies? Short-ish lists are good. I'm looking for stuff to watch since I have some spare time and a 'rent one get one free' card from Blockbuster. I don't really watch that many movies but I figure I should see what all the fuss is about.

Anything is good. Preferably ones that are easily available though. I haven't seen Amelie, maybe I'll look for that.

Garden State was cute. Plus - Peter Sarsgaard! The Notebook was lovely and romantic. *sigh* Comedy wise, I can never go past a Christopher Guest movie: Best In Show, A Mighty Wind, Waiting For Guffman etc. And of course there's always the brilliant Rushmore, or The Royal Tenenbaums. Bottle Rocket is fantastic too, but may be a smidgeon harder to find...

I'm undecided about the notebook but i'm not a romance fan, though Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are hot so for some that may be incentive enough I can't decide if i should see it or write it off as not my kind of movie

yeh it looks like a typical romance movie - but peeps say its not - and for the hotness b/w ryan and rachel could be enough for me to watch it just watched million dollar baby today, such a good movie

The Notebook is worth it for the hotness. I'm not a romance fan by any means but it certainly took me in. The two actors have amazing chemistry together. Then again, I'd watch anything with Ryan Gosling in it. Saved was ok. Better than most teen movies out there. Eva Amuri [Susan Sarandon's daughter] was great. I thought of two more [both starring Kieran Culkin for some reason]: Igby Goes Down, and The Dangerous Lives Of Altar BoysGreat movies.

Awww I like Dogma. Waiting For Guffman is the bestest! "You're bastard people! I'm gonna go home and I'm gonna bite my pillow is what I'm gonna do!" I used to want to be Parker Posey - I think she's all that and a bag of potato chips.

dont get me wrong dogma is a good movie if you watched the first 20 mins where bethany is sitting in church - you can see my ex there. bastard I always have to FF through that part. Parker is the coolest chick. "Ill have a felafal with hot sauce, a side order of babaghanoush and a seltzer please"

I don't think they can take it back. We joined and hired things like once and then after a few months of not hiring anything they sent us the 'rent one get another free' x10 thing...only problem is that's not all that enticing. I hate taking movies back. Or going to choose them and the one you want isn't there.
